You'll want to use the L-18 cranks, connecting rods, and pistons. The L-18 block is virtually identical to the L-16 block, except it is a little stronger, having extra webbing between the cylnders and wall of the block I believe. But if your L-16 block is in good shape, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get away with this. Another option is to use the L-18 crank and connecting rods, and L-16 pistons. This will give you a 1.7 liter "L-17." This is a pretty common upgrade. I believe Bruce Godfrey runs this combination.
