There is only one SU manifold for the 4cyl L-series. The Z carbs will bolt up to the manifold using two of the four mounts. You may have to fight vacuum leaks at that mating point, however. Jason has had a few lengthy posts on adapting the Z SUs to the SSS manifold. You don't need to port the manifold out to 46mm or anything crazy like that, as the throat of the Z carb is more like 42mm. But, basically, you do have to open up the manifold more to take advantage of the bigger carbs. > repeat that this year. What's the best doner to get carbs off? The earlier the Z, the better. 2000 Roadsters had the same sized carbs, with the advantage of correctly phased throttle shafts (rotate in the same direction as the 510). One or the other (or both) have less sturdy throttle shaft bushings (aluminum) than the 38mm carbs. More likely to find leaky throttle shafts. Obviously a 2.2 pushing 7000rpm (with cam to match) is going to outflow the 38mm carbs. Have you added velocity stacks to your setup or modified the carbs for flow?
