Here's the formula for figuring out spring rates:

K=(W<4> x G)/8ND<3>

the <> means to the power

K = spring rate
W = wire diameter
G = 12,000,000 (constant)
N = # of active coils (free coils = 1/2)
D = diameter of coil from center of wire in inches
