From: "David Carroll" <NISSSAN@email.msn.com> Subject: 510 Day BBQ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 00:21:06 -0700List, Well, the BBQ at my place came off pretty well. There were about 30 people and probably 10 or 12 510s? The wagon motor blow was actually pretty cool. I fired it up and let it warm up for a couple minutes so it would run at full throttle. I then shut it off and locked the throttle wide open. I restarted it and ran like hell! It was probably turning over 7500rpm and made one hell of a roar! I guess it went about 30 seconds or so and blew a volcano of water and steam out of the radiator cap which I left off so I wouldn't split my new Griffin radiator. It went another 30 seconds or so and with a low thud it threw number three connecting rod and popped a piece out of the block in a ball of fire. After that the motor sounded kinda soft and dropped to probably 6000rpm immediately. Then it slowly lost power and ground to a stop about 15 seconds later. I let it sit for about 5 minutes to cool down and it started right up again but would only rev to about 1500rpm so I just shut it off. Ya gotta love L16s, they don't know when to die! As I had hoped, there was no damage to the car, just a puddle of oil from the aerated oil pan and block. Kinda fun, I guess. Next year I'll try to get a Honduh with a "Type R" sticker on it to blow up and then crush with my Unimog! Thanks to everyone that stopped by and I hope to see you here next year.
