Kurt, you have inspired my memories.
I drove my first 510 around without a windshield for a short while...
That same car saw a fair amount of time crashing through various forest
trails...
I had a 77 Corolla that rusted off the strut spring perch. The JY
wanted $75 for a used strut, and I was planning on junking the car in
three weeks anyway, so I just removed the springs from both sides and
commuted 70 miles round trip on the bumpstops for that time...

As far as a redneck dime experience, driving with the
hood off is about as far as I've gone.
But...
I did ride in the BACK (covered) of my dad's '65 L320
pickup on a non-stop run from Mexico City to North
Carolina at age eight. My mother wasn't too pleased.
The 10+ hrs of rain during the trip wasn't much fun
either.
I also loaded down my '73 1200 coupe for a trip from
North Carolina to college in Claremont, CA in 1984
with the car packed to the headliner (back seat folded
down), a U-haul cargo box on top, and two bikes on a
rack hanging off the back. Rode about 1/2" off the
bumpstops IIRC. Must have looked like a Datsun
version of the Beverly Hillbillies.

oh, and the newly dented passenger door too...looks
kinda redneck too.
