New SSS fender mirrors. Much better adjustment and field of view compared to the stock Deluxe fender mirrors. -

New steering wheel. 14" Nardi. Gives a little more style, a nicer material, and a bit more room underneath. -

New seats! Recaros from an early '80s BMW 3-series replaced the OE 510 seats. Much sportier without looking sporty. The vinyl pattern is a decent match for the rest of the upholstery. -

Ventana El Conquistador de Montañas, full-suspension mountain tandem. Middleburn CNC cranksets, Hope 6-piston fixed-caliper hydraulic discs with 8" floating rotors. -

Side view of Whitebird before departure for the US. Looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. This photo shows off the tinted glass. -

Bluebird in Japan. Rolling on stock steelies. I have the hub caps just in case, but the tires were too dry-rotted to bother keeping. Also notice the rear garnish between the taillights. -

Innards of a Bluebird front drum brake. Nothing like the rears. -

Front drums! Fear my braking ability (no, really, be afraid!). -

Formula-One wheels. They seem like Japanese copies of Panasports. 14x6. JDM Yoko DNA rubber, which appears to be the same as the US Yoko ES100 rubber. 185/60/14 currently. -

RHD instrument cluster. The speedo lines are the same between US and JDM cars, only the number overlay changes. So, straight up is still 55mph, and 120kph is about 75mph. With L13 power, I shouldn't have a problem keeping it below the speed limit. -

Interesting ashtray placement. I've never owned a 4-door so this may be common, but my wagon had 'em in the rear door panels. -

Interior shot. Stock as the day is long. You can see the shift lever sprouting from the steering column. Plans for the interior are very low-key, amounting to a Nardi steering wheel and a set of E30 BMW Recaros, and dreams of a '69 SSS instrument cluster. -

Japanese data plate. Check out that horsepower rating! Figure 50hp to the wheels, if I'm lucky. 4.375 rear end ratio helps multiply what little torque there is, though, so it is reasonably peppy once it is on the move. -

Check out the monkey-motion transmission shifting mechanism attached to the steering box. It gets more complicated underneath the car. -

Captive Bird. The car was resprayed before leaving Japan and they decided to hit the air cleaner with paint as well. -

1969 Datsun Bluebird 1300 Deluxe. Three-on-the-tree 3-speed manual transmission. L13 four cylinder, Hitachi 306 carb. Four-wheel drum brakes.
