Shasta Tranny Swap
Randy York writes: Damn thing stuck in 4th gear as we were leaving the freeway for lunch in Stockton that year. We had been on the road for about 2-3 hours after our last gas stop as I recall. The car only had about 60K miles on it. But heck, we were on our way to Shasta, we couldn't stop, besides it was only another 4 or 5 more hours. And most of it was on the highway............. 'cept for the gas stops. No real problems until we were almost at the top of the steep grade just before Shasta and a big rig cuts into our lane. We ALMOST lost momentum, but thanks to the expertise of my co-driver at the wheel (and just enough road shoulder) we made it! Fresh undies all around as soon as we were safely parked at the Pine Needles Transmission Swap Facility/Motel.
Defintitely a classic in Shasta lore.
