  1. From the album: East Coast Summit Point 510 Meet 2004

Walt kept his Taurus off the roof this year and presided over a nasty accident involving a Jag and a Chevron on the track. He hopes to have his 510 at Summit Point in person next year.

    At Altamont

Excellent! I am taking a similar "stripped of anything unnecessary" build technique on my four door. Mine will have an LZ22 and no cage, I was hoping on getting under 2,000 pounds, you are giving me hope that it is possible! Are you running glass hood/fenders?

    At Altamont

Very nice ride Dan... what does this car scale at?
  4. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This shot shows the oil/carbon build-up on the #1 intake valve before cleaning. The oil was being sucked into the intake through the PCV system and burning onto the intakes during the valve overlap period. It was built up over 1/4" thick in places! The two valves are both open the same amount in the pictures.
  5. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This is a shot of the #2 intake valve after soaking the oil/carbon build-up in Berryman's B12 Carb Cleaner for 24 hours and scraping the still hard residue off with various cleaning picks.
  6. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This shot shows the placement of the evacuation nipple inside the collector. the silver stuff in the background is metal chips from die grinding the hole.
  7. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This is the nipple and check valve for the crankcase evacuation system. I also added a flange to the header. I am going to try running this system instead of a PCV system. Even with a restricted orifice, the previous PCV system was pulling oil into the intake and coking up my intake valves.
  8. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

These are the holes I drilled in order to bang out the ballpein reliefs in the primary tubes. I backed the tubes with a iron anvil cut from a Ford truck susspension mount. The access holes will be welded up.

    Header Repair

From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This is the area that I had to ballpein in for clearance before modifying the block and trans. It ain't pretty, but the tubes are full diameter now, instead of 2/3 diameter. Circled areas will be welded.
  10. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

There are two ribs below the block mounting point that need to be trimmed back as shown.
  11. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

The Z22S block has a tab for a trans stiffener bracket that hits one of the primary tubes on the NISMO header, here is what needs to be ground off.
  12. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This detail shows the nice button head stainless allen screws fitted on the throttle shaft and plate. These high flow screws are Loctited it place.
  13. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This is a shot from the linkage side, ou can see the protective dust barrier to protect the sealed bearing. I asked to not have the bodies polished, they normally polish them with this service, but that would have meant I would have to polish my domes... nahhhh... I just want to go fast, I'm not too concerned with looking pretty.
  14. From the album: LZ22 Engine Stuff

This is a shot of one of my carb bodies I just got back fron Z-Therapy, who re-worked the throttle shafts, fitting them with sealed bearings to prevent any play and air leaks. You can't imagine how nice these feel, I can't wait to get them on the LZ22!
  15. '84 810/Maxima, last year RWD, L24EFI, automatic OD, more or less rust free, 96K miles. Got it for $500 last September, that's the Junkboxe's roof rack and spoiler on there... this summer it will get camo'ed and lifted a bit in the rear.
  16. This is my '72 four door, awaiting the LZ22. Tired looking, but it is an Arizona rust free car I bought back in 1990. It hasn't been on the road since '96. It will be at Summit Point in 2004!
  17. That's the LZ22 that was in the Junkboxup on my workbech being prepped for the four door. Name the drag racing item in this picture and win a free hunk of the Junkbox, a slab of bondop or something...
  18. Yup, that is the infamous Junkbox's front end parts. If you look carefully in the right rear corner, you can see the future V8 transplant motor for the wagon... don't ask, I won't tell :>)
