Reno Air Races 2009

The highly modified P-51 Mustang "Strega" earned yet another Reno championship, this year flown by 22-year-old Steve Hinton Jr.

The aircraft in this album were the fastest piston-powered machines on the planet in 2009, relying on superchargers, nitrous, and aerodynamics to propel their WWII-era designs into 500-mph territory on an 8.4-mile oval course. The three airplanes represent a combined total somewhere around 10,000 horsepower!
